Which should you use?

These two are the same family separated by how much iron powder is in the coating. E7014 holds roughly 30% and stays all-position; E7024 holds around 50%, deposits substantially faster, and is restricted to the flat position and horizontal fillets. Penetration also differs: E7014 is medium, E7024 is shallow and depends entirely on good fit-up. If the work can be positioned flat, E7024 will fill it faster. If it cannot, E7014 is the rod.

Choose E7014 when

  • Joints with variable fit-up needing some penetration
  • General fabrication on a single rod

Which deposits faster, E7014 or E7024?

E7024, by a clear margin — it carries roughly 50% iron powder against E7014's 30%, and it is run at higher amperage with a drag technique.

Can E7024 replace E7014 on all my work?

Only if every joint can be positioned flat or as a horizontal fillet. E7024's classification does not permit vertical or overhead welding.

Do both need to be dragged?

Both are drag rods by design, with the coating resting on the work. E7024's deep crucible makes this more pronounced.
