Which should you use?
These two sit at opposite ends of the 60-series. E6010 needs DCEP, produces a forceful digging arc, and is built for open roots and contaminated steel. E6013 runs on AC or either DC polarity with a soft, quiet arc, shallow penetration and a heavy self-lifting slag that leaves a smooth bead. If your machine is AC-only, E6010 is not even an option. If it is DC and the joint is thin and clean, E6013 will still give the better-looking result.

- Rust, paint and mill scale
- DC machines and pipe work
Choose E6013 when
- Thin material where burn-through is the concern
- AC machines

E6010 vs E6013 — common questions
Can E6010 run on an AC welder?
No. Its sodium-based cellulosic coating will not sustain an arc on alternating current. Use E6011, which is the AC-capable equivalent.
Which rod is better for thin sheet metal?
E6013, in a small diameter such as 1/16 or 5/64 in. E6010's deep penetration will blow holes in thin material.
Do E6010 and E6013 have the same strength?
Both are 60 ksi minimum tensile. E6010 has a higher minimum elongation requirement, so its deposit is more ductile.
